YUMMY IN MY TUMMY

Ooooh, yes, the breakfast of champions.  I am such a breakfast person, in fact I always have breakfast food in my house and almost never have things like steak, or food boys like to eat.  I've tried, but I just love morning meals so much that when I'm at the grocery store I buy enough for weeks... can't stop my self. And when there is nothing left in the fridge but eggs and bacon?  Three words for ya: BREAKFAST FOR DINNER.  So you can imagine my joy when my dear friend Carey Beth introduced me to this kick ass day starter... thank you CB.  To make my morning even better, Tim brought me piping hot coffee from the newest Portland coffee spot, Speckled Ax Espresso, a venture by wood fire roasted coffee guy, Matt Bolinder, a perfect pairing.

Here's how ya get it:

1/2 c Quaker Oatmeal (the classic)
Pinch of Salt
1 T Flax Seed Oil
Honey
Fresh Fruit
Dried Fruit
Nuts
Greek Yogut (I prefer Total 0% Fage)

- boil the water, add the oats, a little salt, and wait.... follow the directions on the box and you can't mess this one up.
- Stir in honey, the flax seed oil for a little nutty flavor and you daily omega-3's, fresh fruit, dried fruit, and nuts, per your taste.
- add a dollop of greek yogurt on top and enjoy!

Have a great weekend!

RECAP

It was an excellent weekend folks!

My friends The District Attorney's played here this weekend, check 'em out!  T.J. Mimbs, band member, gardner, and chef extraordinaire is going to be writing a food column here on Ornamental Habit, so excited!  So look out for that...

I brunched with friends at one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood, Extra Virgin, and gave my birthday money a workout at Theory's 70% off sale.  Also, met the cutest Italian man (he is passionate about pizza) at Rosario's in L.E.S. who gave us free cannoli! Woohoo! All in all it was a good one...  here is a visual recap for ya...

Hope you have a wonderful week!

FREEZE POPS

Oh my goodness... we made it to Friday. Wooohooo!!!

Dying to make some of these frozen fruit pops, or Mexican Paletas. So easy, so fun, so delicious! I think I've found my Saturday activity.  Peach, Apricot, Orange... I can't decide.  But I wish I was eating them right now, outside in the sun, on a blanket made from this beautiful fabric.  Recipe below...

Spicy Peach Paletas

What you'll need...

5 Large Ripe Peaches
1 Bucket of Ice Water
1/2 Cup Pure Cane Sugar
1 Lemon
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
2 Teaspoons of Chili Powder (O.H. Recommended)
Pinch of Salt
1/4 Cup of Milk

How to make it...

Score each peach with an "X" on the bottom opposite stem side.
Blanch in boiling water for no more than 1 minute.
Drop into ice bath, this should make the skin peel off easily... (peel off skin).
Liquify sugar, juice of one lemon, cinnamon, chili powder, pinch of salt, and milk in blender.
Pour into popsicle mold, freeze, and enjoy!!

(This recipe and popsicle image was found here, on "Things Wot I Made Then Ate", its an amazing food blog I just discovered, I LOVE how she explains everything and with such witty humor. AWESOME. Definitely going to be a regular reader from now on...)

Happy summer, people.
This weekend, I am takin' it easy... have a wonderful weekend!

HAUS BEAUTIFUL

Had a lovely day strolling around Nolita yesterday (walking off our DELICIOUS brunch from La Esquina).  Always, a delight to pop in to Haus Interior... check out my iSnaps from yesterday!

Look familiar? See more about these trays here!

This mix of patterns is scrumptious.

O.H. loves horses! See more here.

I love how they painted canvases in different colors and grouped them to created a perfect wall display. Great way to create an interesting vignette IMO.

Chicks! We all know how I feel about birds.

Gearing up for this week! Stay tuned for more delightful things coming your way...

Thanks for stopping by!

BE ROYAL

Ah, to be Queen for a day?

Catch Up:

This past week has been a bit crazy for me... not to mention the rain, ugg!
I've let O.H. go for FAR too long, I've missed it.  See below for some of the cool stuff I've been getting into over the past few days that you should totally check out:

Spent the day with brilliant photographer, Roger Davies and his stellar assistant, Albert.  Such wonderfully smart, creative, and kind people, and what a treat to see that side of the business! (Thank you!)

BYOB Thai Food, yum!

Pizza and Wine with NPR's Science Friday Producer, Katherine Wells.  See her funky videos, stories, and all things linking science and the arts here.  It's so much MORE than Science!

Tasted new brews from Hill Farmstead Brewery at The Blind Tiger.  A new hop variety?

Played with one of these.  It was the size of a small bear, I swear!

Discovered this blog, and loving it: Effortless Style.

And finally, SO excited to see this months Garden and Gun Magazine in my mailbox today. Always such a comfort to get a little taste of home here in NYC.  Great article about BBQ and the Queen of Folk Emmylou Harris.

MAV-TASTIC

MAV the visual blogger, stylist, photographer, crafter, cook extraordinaire!  I am obsessed with this Portland, Maine based chick who is always creating, documenting, living, and sharing it all with us.  Check out her many web outlets here, and find out more about these groovy pops here!  This image was found on 3191 Miles apart, a project created by a dynamic duo living 3191 miles apart and documenting daily snapshots of their lives... intrigued?  Go on, investigate.

Happy thursday like a friday, should you be so lucky...

P'S AND Q'S

On my most recent visit to the Brooklyn Flea Market this weekend, I stumbled across some amazing full sets of letter press blocks from dAN's Parent's House.  I love how they look together, and the layers of color from lots of love.

My partner in crime this weekend, Katherine (you can see me snapping this pic in the reflection!).  Always fun to scavenge while sipping Java Splits and munching brownies from Whimsey and Spice, with someone you have known for 24 years!

Hope you all are having a lovely weekend, enjoy this mellow rainy day, brew some tea, and cozy up with the New York Times... thats what I'll be doing.
