MAIRA KALMAN/ NEW YORKER

Saw a show of Maira Kalman's at the Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side a year or two ago and was completely enchanted. She has been a part of my life since "Ooh, la, la, Max in Love" was published in 1991. The whimsy of her sketches make me laugh every time, and there is a feel good quality to her work that I am so drawn to. While exploring her website recently, I came across some of the covers she did for the New Yorker that I hadn't seen, and had to share. The color makes me smile... Killin' it in the duck hat. These could be excellent halloween inspirations.
I also just picked up her new book "Food Rules" written by Michael Pollan, and have loved it! A definite recommendation and good gift (keep it in mind for the upcoming holidays!)

PACK-IN' HEAT

So my friend Lucy is a GENIUS. I laughed OUT LOUD at some of these! Aren't they fabulous?  Lucy Pack: artist, cat lover, Texan turned New Yorker, best laugh ever, creative wonder... I love Lucy.  She works as an artist in New York City, painting, collaging, and more.  To see more of her work, visit her website, www.lucillepack.com. Cheers.

THE PARK

Central Park is New York's greatest feature.  Can you imagine the city without it? No respite from steel and stone.  I used to walk home through Central Park almost everyday, it is another planet. Like walking into Narnia. These photographers have captured it in a most awe inspiring way.

Tim Barber.  Thanks to Exhibition A for introducing me to this amazing talent.  To me this photo captures the enormity and the magic of New York at the same time. I'll look at this when I miss the city, it is everything that is good and fearsome. Pink hair is so cool.

...and Sangbin Im. I was introduced to him by Amanda Nisbet, who loves his piece "The Met." Isn't it a trip? His work is really unbelievable.

I covet.

LINE POSTERS

Back from a week in Colorado! I hope you didn't miss me too much... The crisp cool mountain air sure is good for what ails ya! I spent my time in Crested Butte, CO hiking, fishing, lounging, reading, and eating delicious food.  Monday is move day, yipes! So this vacation was perfect to clear my head and get ready for the crazy month ahead...

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic about leaving New York City, as it has been incredible, and I have learned so much by living here.  While walking around today in my neighborhood, I spotted these and bought two.  They will be lovely in my future office.  You can buy them in this Lineposters (by Cayla and John) etsy shop, or find them where I did at Teich in the West Village.

Thanks for stopping by!

RECAP

It was an excellent weekend folks!

My friends The District Attorney's played here this weekend, check 'em out!  T.J. Mimbs, band member, gardner, and chef extraordinaire is going to be writing a food column here on Ornamental Habit, so excited!  So look out for that...

I brunched with friends at one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood, Extra Virgin, and gave my birthday money a workout at Theory's 70% off sale.  Also, met the cutest Italian man (he is passionate about pizza) at Rosario's in L.E.S. who gave us free cannoli! Woohoo! All in all it was a good one...  here is a visual recap for ya...

Hope you have a wonderful week!
